What is NNAS?

The National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) is a Canadian organization that facilitates the credential evaluation of internationally educated nurses (IENs) seeking licensure in Canada. Established in 2012, NNAS provides a standardized assessment of nursing education and experience to ensure they align with Canadian standards.

What is NNAS Verification?

NNAS Verification is the process by which the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) evaluates and authenticates the credentials of internationally educated nurses (IENs) seeking licensure in Canada. This verification ensures that an applicant's education, training, and experience meet Canadian standards.Three types of verifications should be done. They are from Nursing Education Institution (College/University),Nursing Registration Authority (Nursing Council) and from Employer (Work Experience)

Key Steps in the NNAS Verification Process:

    1. Document Submission:
    - IENs submit required documents, including proof of identity, educational transcripts, nursing licenses, and employment history. Certain documents must be sent directly from issuing institutions to maintain authenticity.

    2. Credential Assessment:
    - NNAS reviews and verifies the submitted documents, contacting issuing institutions as needed to confirm authenticity. This assessment compares the applicant's qualifications against Canadian nursing standards.

    3. Advisory Report Issuance:
    - After verification, NNAS prepares an Advisory Report detailing the assessment findings. This report is sent to the applicant's chosen provincial or territorial regulatory body, which uses it to determine eligibility for licensure.

The NNAS verification is a crucial initial step for IENs aiming to practice nursing in Canada, ensuring that their credentials are accurately evaluated in alignment with Canadian standards.
